Building on a strong foundation of palliative care, BPCI has recognized the need to expand the current bereavement programs and has identified a bereavement centre as a means to providing qualified and accessible bereavement support to those in need in the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region and throughout the province.
On May 14, 2008, BPCI proudly announced the establishment of the Greystone Bereavement Centre (GBC), thanks to the generous support of Greystone Managed Investments. The centre will offer programs that compliment the natural support systems already in place in communities by providing additional specialized bereavement care. This support will help individuals to reinvest themselves in life and living and to find a new normal in life following the death of someone special.
The Greystone Bereavement Centre will be unique in Canada in terms of capacity and variety of programming offered. The goal is to contribute proactively to the health and well-being of grieving individuals, communities and organizations. Counselling expertise combined with education around the grieving process will ensure that each client receives the right care, in the right place, at the right time. The GBC seeks to become a national resource centre for research, training, teaching and counselling related to grief and bereavement.
As of March 1, 2008, bereavement programs and services have been offered at the Greystone Bereavement Centre. There are three counsellors on site who provide individual counselling as well as other grief support activities. Marlene Jackson, Bereavement Coordinator with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region is leading the clinical component, Pat Cavanaugh joined the BPCI team as a Bereavement Counsellor in September 2009 and Wendy Bright joined the team in OCtober 2009, also as a Bereavement Counsellor.
The Greystone Bereavement Centre is open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
