Volunteers

The palliative care team consists of health care professionals and volunteers who make a huge difference in the lives of those families faced with a non-curable illness, death and bereavement.

You can become a part of this exceptional team and play a significant role by volunteering your time.

There are two main categories of volunteers associated with Bern Palliative Care Inc.

The first category is Palliative Care Volunteers who provide companionship, social and emotional support, and comfort measures to patients and families in acute care and home care, and as well, provide respite care and bereavement follow-up. As a volunteer, you may also participate in various activities and events on the Palliative Care Unit such as hosting family teas, baking oven fresh bread, preparing a soup and biscuit lunch, or assisting with pet therapy. To inquire about being a Palliative Care Volunteer, you can contact Bev Schultz, Volunteer Manager, Palliative Care Services, at 306.766-2384.

The second category is Greystone Bereavement Centre Volunteers. As a volunteer with Greystone Bereavement Centre, you may assist in facilitating grief groups, prepare, set-up and assist with Caring Hearts Camp which is a week-end camp for children and teens who have experienced the recent loss of a family member.  Volunteers are also needed for various clerical duties with the Bereavement Centre, as well as assisting with the organization of special events. To inquire about being a Greystone Bereavement Centre volunteer, you can contact Marlene Jackson, Bereavement Coordinator at 306.523.2784 or Connie Borsa at 306.523.2780.

All volunteers are assessed and required to participate in a specialized training course.
